Project Challenges

The customer had a deck that was less than 15-years old made of vinyl decking and vinyl railing. While the old deck had more life in it, the customer wanted to update the look of the deck. In addition, the vinyl decking was showing its age but how loud the deck would squeak when someone walked on the deck. Further, the white vinyl railing was beginning to show its age with some slight cracks and dulled appearance.

Project Solutions

Our team designed a new deck that addressed all of the customer’s concerns with their old deck. First, the customer knew they wouldn’t want the maintenance of a wood deck and they were unhappy with the performance of their existing vinyl deck. So a deck with composite deck boards made perfect sense. The composite deck boards have great durability that the customer won’t have to worry about a squeaky deck ever again. Second, we modernized their deck by installing vertical cable railing made of stainless steel. We further enhanced the deck by installing a few accent lights on the deck and a few riser lights on the stairs. The lights are powered by a simple transformer that plugs into a normal light socket on the deck. With the dimmer that it’s included in the transformer, the customer has the ability to adjust the lighting’s brightness. The result is a very happy customer with an upgraded deck that is the talk of the neighborhood.
